You have just enrolled your child in to Martial arts classes because of all the benefits the classes offer their child. But parents in the Martial Arts benefit too! And that is why we are seeing a slight increase in parents joining starting classes. If you are a Martial Arts Parent, have you enrolled too?

If not, why?

Dear parent, surely you’d benefit from:

  • The Self Defence skills
  • Exercise & Fitness
  • The Fun
  • The Challenge
  • The Comradery
  • Strength & Flexibility
  • Reduced Stress & Anxiety
  • The Increase in Self Confidence
  • The Increase in Self Control
  • The Support and Environment of likeminded individuals striving to better themselves
  • The Opportunity to Coach
  • To Compete (if you wish)
  • Oh, And you’d have a shared interest/hobby with your child. You can communicate and interact on something other than Peppa Pig, the X-factor or some other mindless drivel that’s on the box.

Are You Making Excuses?

There are possibly several excuses, sorry, reasons; such as “not sure what to expect,” self doubt and lack of confidence. Yet, you enrol your the child in order to combat those very feelings and more; anxiety, lack of confidence or a bit of over indulgence (fat/obese!).

Maybe the class-time is set aside for you to do more important things, like shopping, work, nothing, or its convenient child-care (it happens).

If you are one of the parents that thinks:

  • “But I’m not fit enough”
  • “Oh not sure I’d like it” or
  • “It looks to difficult” or
  • “I might get hurt”

You get the picture.

What do you say to your child when they say these things?

Become A Martial Arts Parent

It can be difficult to start new things when you haven’t got someone nudging you or telling you to start.

Another excuse, sorry, reason is “I’m too old.”
Well guess what, Right Now, is the youngest you’ll ever be. Classes cater for the individual and their ability. The longer you leave it, the harder it becomes. But the sooner you start, the longer you have to enjoy it!

There are more and more middle-aged people taking-up the martial arts. So take that excuse off your silly little list.

What happens at the first class?

Well you probably already know having been in a watched Junior (if allowed) at their first class, You certainly won’t be doing anything impossible or anything you cannot do without a little bit of thought and encouragement. We, the Instructors:

✅ Have Your health & well-being as top priority!
✅ look after you
✅ coach you
✅ show you the basics
✅ challenge you

All Martial Arts Students will #beuncomfortable, will probably sweat and will probably forget about the niggly, irritating things that your mind festers on minute by minute, hour by hour. Wouldn’t it be great to be totally distracted form that?

You Will leave the class as intact as you came in. Except now, your life will start to change. You have made a new choice and different choices, start your brain working in a different way.

This new experience has engaged you body and mind and you have started to grow; Mentally and physically. You have changed the way you think and the way you feel and started your road to better health, better fitness.

The Martial Arts Parent Hero

Now you must repeat this and form a new habit. Even if you don’t feel like it.

Your child needs encouraged and educated to push beyond the habit of laziness and comfortable. So must you. You need to shoe them what it is to Persevere and push through. It is natural because, and science shows this, the Person inside Your Head, doesn’t want change. It is happy being Comfortable but the intelligent, knowing, thinking part of you knows that to give up will take you back to that old routine you were so desperately trying to get out of.

Is that what you want for you?
Is that what you want for your child?

Your child is counting on you more than you know.
If you quit, they will too.
Be their hero.
Or let them be yours 🥋
